Vintage Walter Bosse/Hagenauer era brass black metal BEAR Germany pipe rest MCM

Description

Vintage midcentury modern cast metal bear pipe holder in the style of
Walter Bosse or Herta Baller. I do not know the designer/maker for sure, but a p
aper label on the underside reads “Made in Germany.” (Appears something is cast in the bottom as well but I’m not going to remove the sticker to see.)
Applied black finish with golden brass trim on nose, ears and paws.
Measures about 3 inches across diagonally from to of ear to back foot and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom to the tip of its mouse-like pointed nose. (The animal has no tail to definitively settle the bear v. mouse argument.)
Could be used as a candle holder for a small ball candle, as an egg cup, pipe rest or ring caddy.
The metal is bronze or brass beneath the black coating.
Good overall used condition with some minor scuffs and signs of age-related wear.
