    Description

    SOUVENIR PROGRAM for musical
    "1491" MEREDITH WILLSON'S
1969. WILLSON wrote scores for THE MUSIC MAN and THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, both big hits on Broadway. But then he came a cropper with "1491", a musical about the goings-on in the year before Columbus set sail, some of them serious, some silly, some saintly, some sinful and some suspicious. But the audience slept. 1491 opened in L.A. in 1969 with JOHN CULLUM and CHITA RIVERA leading the cast. It moved to San Francisco and closed later the same year and never made it to Broadway. It was WILLSON'S last score and a dismal failure. This souvenir program is exceedingly rare and for collectors, historians and just general theatre aficionados, exceedingly desirable. It's in VERY GOOD condition, clean throughout with all pages present and intact. 1/2" closed tear bottom of spine and a few inconspicuous creases front cover -- not affecting artwork. Please see photographs for details. A bittersweet souvenir from a composer who gave us one great musical and a couple of very good ones but who disappointingly ended his career with something less.
