About 5” inches in height, it is the ubiquitous icon of Classical Ancient Greek athleticism. It also epitomizes the timeless Olympic Spirit. This little bronze probably dates from the 19th century or the early to mid 20th century. For condition please carefully review photos.
“The Discobolus of Myron ("discus thrower", Greek: Δισκοβόλος, Diskobólos) is a Greek sculpture completed at the start of the Classical period at around 460 - 450 BC. The sculpture depicts a youthful male athlete throwing discus. The original Greek bronze is lost but the work is known through numerous Roman copies, both full-scale ones in marble, which was cheaper than bronze, such as the first to be recovered, the Palombara Discobolus, and smaller scaled versions in bronze.” (Info from Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discobolus )
