    Description

This is a rare program of the pre-Broadway preview of the musical Little Me starring Sid Caesar. Prior to its Broadway opening, Little Me played at the Erlanger Theatre in Philadelphia where the writers "tried out the show" and made changes based on audience response. This program is notable for listing several songs that were cut prior to its Broadway opening.
The Erlanger Theatre was one of Philadelphia's most elaborate live-performance theatres and considered one of the most magnificent ever built in the United States. Philadelphia was well-known for hosting many Broadway shows during their tryout periods, and the Erlanger was most famous for hosting the pre-Broadway runs of Guys and Dolls, West Side, Story, Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady, and others. The Erlanger opened on October 23, 1927 and was demolished in 1978.
The program is in fair condition for a sixty-year-old booklet. The cover has come loose from one of the staple bindings, and the second staple is hanging by a tear. Also, the date "10/24/62" is written on the top right cover, no doubt the day that the original owner of this program saw Mr. Caesar perform this classic musical for one of the first times. (Personally, I think ephemera that has scribbles and doodling and coffee stains are more charming than pieces in pristine condition as they retain part of their former lives with their former owners.)
If you collect Playbills of classic musicals, you'll want to add this to your collection.
