Offered here is an original bronze signed by Hungarian sculptor L. Lukacsy, for Lajos Lukacsy.  It’s a very dramatic treatment of a faun capturing a mermaid, standing 8 inch tall, 9 inch long and 5 inch wide.  Lukacsy is best known for his monumental sculptures, particularly the one of György Festetics in front of the Festetics mansion in Hungary.  Small pieces by him are almost non-existent.  We acquired this from Austria years ago and it's the only example of this piece I've seen in over 60 years of collecting.  Condition is very good – I believe there has been a barely noticeable repair to the faun’s left ear.  The patina is old, rich and beautiful: the skin tones are antique gold; the mermaid’s scales and the faun’s legs are brown-black.
