    Description

This is a fine large majestic brass candlestick from about the first half of the 18th century, roughly.  It is a resurrection of a form originally from the 14th and 15th centuries with a circular base and a long column with a swelling outline (entasis) leading to the cast-in bobeche.  Possibly these later examples were used for worship and were placed on altars in churches or mansions.  Mention of this later form (as well as of the earlier from the time of Henry II) is made on page116 in Michaelis' book "Old Domestic Base-Metal Candlesticks."
It is in good shape and has a small pinhole in the base likely from the original casting (see photos) and it has a bit of a lean as well (this could be straightened if desired; I have done so before but would leave this to the new owner).
    Size:
    About 17 1/8" tall
Diameter of base is 6 1/2"
Unpacked weight is 3 lbs 12 ounces
