  • Condition: Good as-is gently used condition. Some silver loss to interior, mostly at the bottom, below the rim. One scratch through silver at bottom. One very small piece of MOP missing at bend where tail attaches to bowl underneath. Please see pictures for details.

    Description

    For sale here is an impressive silver plated centerpiece bowl with abalone mother-of-pearl attached fish handles as embellishments.   Large black onyx eyes ringed in silver are set into the fish heads.  The fish themselves measure about 9 inches along their curving spines, which are inset with silver dorsal fins.
    A substantial piece at 17 inches long overall, 8 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches tall, standing on 4 ornate cast-silver feet,  the piece works well as a bowl with pot-pourri, fruit or flowers, or as a standalone art piece as seen in the pictures.  The lobed bowl itself (not including the fish) measures 13" x 8" x 4 1/2" tall.  Add crushed ice to it and present a killer shrimp salad at your next friendly gathering!
    Condition is as-is gently used.  There is some silver loss to the interior of the bowl, mostly at the bottom and below the rim.  There is one scratch through the silver on the interior bottom of the bowl; and one very small piece of mother-of-pearl missing where the tail attaches to the bowl underneath (see last picture).   The silver on the exterior appears thick and undamaged.  No dents or scratches noted.   Overall an attractive and whimsical piece.
    I have not been able to find a mark but the age and quality of the workmanship certainly suggests early Taxco / Castillo.
