Description
Antique Russian Sculpture "The Milepost" by Vassilli GrachevA wonderfully detailed bronze sculpture by Vassili Yacovlevitch Grachev (RUSSIAN, 1831-1905). The sculpture depicts three horses pulling a troika sleigh with an izvozchik (cabby) and two passengers of man and woman bundled up under bear skins, being pulled through the snow in a sleigh.
Titled "The milepost", there is a versta (milepost) at the rear right of sleigh with the number 750 etched on the top. There are foundry and artists marks in two places on the base in Cyrillic: “C.F. Woerffel”. In great condition with a little verdigris that is consistent with age; otherwise no chips, breaks or repairs. This piece would be a great focal point in any room.
