Austrian bronze paper cutter with American buffalo head by J. Valenta c.1910

Description

We are offering an incredible bronze paper knife by Austrian sculpture J. Valenta which depicts the three dimensional head of an American buffalo mounted on the sinuous curved paper cutting blade. Definitely a "power piece" for a desk in a Western lodge or other American setting.  The piece is signed in script:
J.Valenta
and has what might be the bronze foundry mark:  a cojoined
AR
in a square cartouche.  The piece has dark patina in the relief and a bit more shine where it has been handled over the years.  There are a few tiny nicks in the blade and it is 11.5" long.  Its very substantial weight is 1 pound 1 ounce.
