Description
Offered here is a wonderful set of Griffoul Foundry solid bronze bookends.Circa 1915
The bronze castings of Griffoul Foundry are second to none. They sculpted works of art from 1906 to 1916 when their efforts were shifted to production for The Great War.
These bookends depict two scenes created by sculptor Antoine-Louis Bayre (France, 1796-1826).
The first scene is called Eagle With Serpent and the second is Eagle With Chamois (the latter is a European relative of an antelope).
The patina is great.
Take a good look at the photos.
Both are marked Griffoul on the side
The bookends are 4 5/8 inches tall, 5 3/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches deep.
The pair are quite heavy weighing 8 pounds.
Original felts.
