    Description

Offered here is a fine handled beaker or pub mug of about 12 oz. capacity dating from the mid 1800s.   While these are never found with maker's marks, I'm certain they're from the Boston area.  Not only does the handle stylistically conform to those found on Morey & Ober and Smith & Co. bell-shaped lamps made in Boston, but some of these are sometimes found stamped "BELL IN HAND"--for the Bell in Hand Tavern, which first opened in 1795 and still operates as a pub in downtown Boston today at 45 Union St., close to Fanueil Hall.
4" to brim, base diameter 3 3/16".  Capacity = about 14 US fl. oz.   Excellent condition.  Works perfectly, especially for hoppy ale!  :-)
