Scottish Terrier
paperweight.
It, as with most
Hubley
figurative sculpture
realized in cast iron, widely seen in doorstops and paperweights, has wonderful, highly articulated detailed figuration, with attention paid to the smallest details. This
Scottish Terrier's
fur and tufted beard, as well as the purebred's characteristic long, hairy eyebrows are wonderfully accomplished, albeit in the medium of metal and cast iron, somewhat softened by the glazed effect of the black enamel paint that envelopes and covers the surface of the form. There are no repairs (old or new) and there are no glued appendages or breaks anywhere on the piece. The black enamel paint also appears to be first generation enamel paint and doesn't have any noticeable 'in-painting' (old or new.) The cast iron antique paperweight of the beloved
Scottish Terrier
is a heralded classic and one that found itself on the desks and bookshelves in many offices and homes. Very nice.
