Description
Up for bid is a 1986 Honda CR250R, full rebuild from frame up built by Phoenix area modern and vintage dirt bike builder (PGD MotoBuilds).I had built a couple of these 86 Honda CR250R's for a client and just fell in love with the 86 CR250R so much I had to build one for myself.
Here it is.
The bike was purchased from a local private seller who had the title. He was the second owner. The bike ran but needed a complete refresh.
It was then torn down and the frame, subframe, along with triple clamps were sent off to a local powder coater (@condello_customs).
The engine was sent to local expert engine builder/mechanic Ryan Wilson (@factory_edge). Ryan pulled the motor apart and sent the cases, cylinder, head and fork lowers to @condello_customs for cerakoting and powder coating. Transmission was inspected and the micro polished. Upon return of cases, all new bearings and seals were installed, new piston and rings were installed. A 1991 CR250R clutch cover was used to replace the (damaged from corrosion) magnesium clutch cover, along with a Boyseen cover. The 86
swingarm
was damaged, a swingarm from a 1987 CR250R was used instead because of it's more modern chain adjustment system.
I ordered all the other needed parts for the rebuild, including some extra goodies.
Hubs were sent off to Dubya where they did their magic, cleaning of the stock hubs, powder coating them and mated them to gold Excel hubs with stainless steel spokes and black nipples. They also added new wheel bearings.
After cerakoting the shock and reservoir were sent off to for rebuild. A new
Pro Circuit
pipe and silencer were ordered.
Some extra goodies were ordered from Phil Denton Engineering, well known manufacture of parts for vintage Honda dirt bikes:
billet rear brake torque bar,
billet suspension link,
billet suspension knuckle and some TI bolts.
New engine and frame bolts were ordered from @SpecBolts.
A Letron carb was ordered from @Letron
A 2002 CR250R front brake caliper, rotor and master cyclinder was used in place of the stock units.
After the bike was reassembled it was returned to Ryan at Factory Edge to install the engine and run some heat cycles.
This bike was built as a vintage race bike and I have raced it in 4 local races, plus a couple of practice sessions, so it has about 3 hours on the engine. Although built for race it can easily be a show bike as well. The bike runs great and suspension handles well.
The bike starts 1st or 2nd kick, a video of starting the bike can be view on Instagram at

I'm selling because I need to step back from racing and take a slower approach, and because I have couple of other personal bike projects I need to finish.
The bike comes with the stock OEM plastic tank and an aluminum fuel tank from (@factoryaluminium). In full disclosure the plastic tank does have a 3 inch crack in the front near the fork indent which as been repaired with plastic weld.
It also somes with 2 complete seats, one with stock OEM cover and one with a gripper cover from MotoSeat.
The PC pipe does contain one small dent as shown in the photos.
Many other new parts were used not mentioned above, see photos.
Bike comes with Arizona title and receipts from products and services used.
Original Honda Service Manual is included in sale.
As PGD MotoBuilds I have built about 16 modern and vintage dirt bike in the last 5 years, client references can be obtained by email.
