The Auction:
This is a
SPECIALIZED
set of three
1 cent
definitive stamps FVF and
MNH
. It contains printing varieties of Scott number
1054*
George Washington
. The dark green side coils are
perf. 10 vert.
The stamps are from the
Liberty Series
coil set which ran from
1954
to
1980
. The definitive regular issues were printed first wet and reprinted later using a dry process. Generally the wet prints have a darker appearance and thinner paper.
*In 2015 Scott changed many Liberty catalogue numbers after a half century.
The rationale is that the first variety printed should retain the major number
1054.
In this case wet stamps were printed before dry so the catalogue numbers needed to be flipped. The minor number
1054b
now refers to the dry print variety.
It will take years for the number changes to catch on within the philatelic community. Many dealers will continue to use the old numbers while some will switch to the new numbers causing confusion. Rest assured that our identification is current and accurate.
We've assembled the set for you and there is no guesswork. All stamps are extremely fresh and guaranteed to be accurately identified. Some of the beautiful coils may have very fine centering. There is a
